How It All Began and What's Ahead

Over 50 years ago, Dennis Charles Einfalt, the son of truck driver Lewis C. Einfalt, returned home after serving his country overseas as a K-9 dog handler in places such as Panama and Korea. With a strong work ethic and a drive to build something of his own, Dennis took on various jobs ranging from construction to automotive repair and body work.

In 1969, Dennis took the first step toward entrepreneurship by starting his own trucking business, later expanding into a body shop and repair operation. Over the years, he owned and operated several body and repair shops throughout the area before purchasing a gas station and repair shop in Bath, PA. There, he added towing services while continuing his trucking operations across the East Coast.

After a devastating fire destroyed his family’s home and all of their personal belongings—thankfully without any injuries—Dennis made the difficult decision to sell the gas station and relocate his family to East Lawn in Nazareth, PA. He soon opened another body and repair shop there (now Wrench-Tech), close to his new home. As his business continued to grow, especially in tractor-trailer body repair, he needed more space to expand. That need led him to purchase a shop garage In Stockertown, PA that now serves as the home of Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc.

When the neighboring property became available, Dennis purchased it and eventually consolidated all operations at the Stockertown location. At the time, the yard functioned only as a car and truck parts yard. Dennis sold used parts while continuing his body work, towing, and trucking businesses. As vehicles were stripped of usable parts, he acquired an old car crusher to prepare the remaining shells for shredders, selling engines and axles to local scrap yards. This marked the true beginning of Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc.
During the mid-1980s, demand for scrap metal increased significantly as part of nationwide efforts to clean up America’s environment. Municipalities began requiring property owners to remove abandoned and scrap vehicles. Dennis responded by building a crew, purchasing a modern MAC car crusher, and assembling a fleet of equipment to clean up properties one by one full of old automobiles and junk metal. Einfalt Recycling & Salvage quickly earned a reputation as an honest, reliable, and efficient recycling yard. To improve service, the company installed its first of many truck scales, making in-and-out weighing smooth and accurate.

As the business grew, Einfalt became one of the area’s leading buyers of ferrous metals, known for competitive pricing and first-class service. To stay competitive with other regional yards, Dennis recognized the need to expand into purchasing non-ferrous metals. In 1986, Dennis hired John Greenleaf, a former scrap yard owner from Flicksville, PA, to lead Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc. non-ferrous metal division.  Through years of hard work and dedication, the company became one of the top non-ferrous buyers in the region.

In 1995, Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc. expanded again by launching a roll-off dumpster and container service division for commercial businesses producing scrap metal. While gaining customers was challenging at first, the service steadily grew. Today, Einfalt provides scrap metal dumpster and container service to more than 75 businesses across the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, and western New Jersey.

Presently, Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc. continues to operate on the same principles that Dennis established in 1969: fairness, honesty, and respect for every customer. Those values have been the foundation of the company’s success for more than five decades.

Forging ahead into the 2020’s, Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc. continues to innovate and invest in a greener future with the inception of LewRail Co., LLC, a railroad company created to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of scrap metal transportation in the Lehigh Valley. Through LewRail, Einfalt is able to inbound scrap busheling for various regional end users while also outbounding scrap iron grades directly from its facility by rail to various steel mills throughout PA, OH and IN. This strategic shift significantly reduces truck traffic, lowers fuel consumption, and cuts carbon emissions, helping to shrink the company’s overall carbon footprint.

By utilizing rail transportation, Einfalt Recycling & Salvage, Inc. strengthens its commitment to environmental responsibility and positions itself as a forward-thinking, environmentally conscious recycler. This initiative reflects what recycling is truly about—conservation, sustainability, and responsible stewardship of resources—while ensuring efficient, reliable service for customers and partners throughout the region.
